2019, RI will Import Industrial Salt and Sugar

Pojok Id. The government plans to import salt and sugar for the industry in 2019. The plan was discussed at a coordination meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs.
Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution estimates that the import demand for salt will be 2.7 million tons. Whereas sugar is 2.8 million tons.

"Industrial sugar is 2.7 million tons. For salt, that is 2.8 million tons," he said at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday.

According to Darmin the figure has not been decided because it is still awaiting reports of the remaining stock of sugar and industrial salt. According to the plan, the remaining stock report will be submitted in January 2019, after which it is decided how much imported sugar and salt is needed.

"Say for salt, there is stock, but it can't be explained where it is. So, they ask for one month to find out exactly where and how. So for the industrial salt as a whole. Later when there are results, we decide," asserted he.

"For industrial sugar, it also still has to have stock data anywhere. This means that the numbers point to it, but it will be confirmed later," he continued.
Previously the government had issued 3.7 million tons of industrial salt import licenses. While industrial sugar is 3.6 million tons.
